My Story
I spent 21 years in the United States Navy, retiring as a Commander. An F/A-18 fighter pilot, I flew combat missions over Iraq and went on to serve at the highest levels of allied defense — as an officer on the International Military Staff at NATO Headquarters in Brussels and as Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs at U.S. European Command, working daily with the House and Senate Armed Services Committees.
I also served as a Defense Legislative Fellow on Capitol Hill, giving me a firsthand understanding of how Congress works from the inside.
I’m running for Congress because real patriotism isn’t performative.
My story begins far from Washington. I was raised by a nineteen-year-old single mother who relied on food stamps and Medicaid, went to night school, and built a career as a computer programmer — working on the Voyager and Space Shuttle programs at NASA and JPL, then at Goddard Space Flight Center, and finally on classified satellite programs at the Naval Research Laboratory. Her climb is the reason I believe government should invest in people.
After the Navy, I founded a clean energy advisory firm and led government relations for American battery and manufacturing companies. I am an Atlantic Council Veterans Advanced Energy Fellow, teach government at American University, and hold a degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Florida State University. When me and my wife, Jen, retired from military life, we purchased a family home on Virginia’s Northern Neck. We have three children.
I’m running for Congress in Virginia’s 1st District — refusing corporate PAC money and pledging to serve no more than four terms in the House of Representatives.
