The Army Corps of Engineers is taking public comments on Google’s Chesterfield data center. The window closes July 28. Google’s Project Skye would fill nearly 18 acres of forested wetlands and disturb more than 8,000 feet of streams feeding Deep Creek and the James River. Before the Corps can issue a permit, it must consider public comments. Unlike an open house, your comment becomes part of the official federal record.

How to submit a public comment on Google’s Skye data center in Chesterfield before the July 28 federal deadline.
STEP 1
Go to rrs.usace.army.mil/rrs/public-notices and select Public Notices (Norfolk District).
STEP 2
Find docket NAO-2026-00282 (Project Skye, Chesterfield County).
STEP 3
Write your comment in your own words and submit.

ABOUT PUBLIC COMMENTS
WHAT TO SAY
Your own words matter most. Speak to what you know firsthand: your well, your neighborhood, the creek, your power bill, the noise. If you want the Corps to hold a public hearing in Chesterfield, say so directly and briefly say why. Hearing requests made during the comment period must be granted unless the Corps finds the issues insubstantial.
QUESTIONS THE RECORD SHOULD REFLECT
- How much water will this campus withdraw and consume, in gallons per day?
- What happens to nearby streams and wells when 18 acres of wetlands are gone?
- What is the combined impact of all three planned campuses, over 1,500 acres, not just this one?
